Performing self (2018- ongoing) is a fixation with femme costume signifiers, particularly around wigs and their utility as apparatus potentiate. In the imaging, adornment and public curation of a constantly shifting personal archetype with hair as its axis, this practice is an identity performance that is above all playful; it is underpinned by a long term endeavour to always be overdressed for every occasion. The work is considered particularly successful when met with a commentary that orbits “…oh– you’re dressed up!”
This project is dedicated to the memory of the artist’s confidante, PhD supervisor and exemplar of grace: Dr. Kate Daw, forever in style.
